TNP Conference news

Posted almost 14 years ago by Patricia Crane

The 23rd annual TNP Conference has concluded and we have all returned home and back to work. The conference was one of the largest conferences and very successful.  It was wonderful getting to see colleagues from across the state and making new friends.

The past year as your president has been incredible and some exciting changes have taken place.  I promised from day one that I would continue the growth and development of TNP and every move we have made reflects that effort.   We can no longer afford to do things the way they have always been done in the past.  Just like Representative Hancock said at conference, we haven't finished the race yet and the work must continue.

While in Fort Worth, the Board met to discuss our continued involvement with CNAP.  We all agreed that continuing the relationship was important for all APRNs. CNAP was originally created to allow all ARPN groups to “pool” resources to give us a voice at the capitol.  TNP has experienced tremendous growth since the beginning of CNAP and because of that growth, and at the urging of 80% of our membership, TNP hired capable and respected lobbyists to give us that constant presence at the capitol.

While our past contributions to CNAP helped fund lobbyists to help us through the legislative sessions, TNP now has our own lobby team dedicated entirely to you and your organization.  However, we still support the general reasoning for CNAP and therefore, continue contributing to the organization. The Board believes it is important that we continue to share resources with CNAP but at a lower donation level.  This decision gives TNP greater financial flexibility to help us meet our needs while also continuing our support for all advanced practice nurses. TNP will still be a top-tier donor to CNAP.  With this change, TNP will be in a better position to further develop our grass-roots efforts, which will lead to greater success during the next legislative session.

During the coming months, TNP will begin implementing a thorough and well-crafted plan to attract legislative support for the 2013 legislative session.  We would be hard-pressed to execute this plan without the resources we are saving and by investing in TNP and our members.  We are committed to investing in nurse practitioners but we will need your support and help to accomplish the tasks. Gone are the days of sitting back and waiting for something to happen.  From now on we will be proactive, assertive, and passionate in our determination to pass BON granted prescriptive authority.  Every move we make is for you, our members and your patients.

 Sincerely,
Sandy McCoy
