New Program: Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program

In response to a national consensus on nurse practitioner education, the UTMB School of Nursing will begin offering an adult/gero nurse practitioner program in Fall 2010. This program will have a broad scope of practice ranging from adolescence through geriatrics, with an emphasis on the health care needs of our aging citizens. The program will include 1000 hours of clinical practice and prepare graduates for national certification as either an adult or gerontologic nurse practitioner. Clinical practice will occur in primary care, acute care, and long term care settings, however, it will not include critical care.
