Overview
Migraine is a debilitating neurologic condition affecting over 36,000,000 people worldwide. It is important for providers to be knowledgeable of the different pharmacologic options available for migraine prevention as well as acute treatments of attacks. This talk will give an overview of preventive therapies including older agents such as antiepileptics, tricyclic antidepressants and beta blockers as well as newer CGRP-antagonists and botox. I will also discuss medications for acute treatment such as triptans, gepants, ditans, ergotamine derivatives, and more.
Learning Objectives
100% of participants will self report increased knowledge regarding the latest in drug therapy, diagnosis, and treatment of some of the most common clinical conditions encountered in the family practice setting.
Speakers
Stephanie has worked in the neuro/headache center for 2.5 years after graduating with her DNP from UIC in 2021. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner she practiced as an RN for 10 years in several inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition to her full-time position she instructs clinicals on weekends for the local community college. When she is not at work she enjoys running and exercising, baking, reading and spending time with her family (husband Matt and two daughters, Maisy and Genevieve).
